I love how excited my dog Beast gets when you ask her if she
wants to go for a ride… She jumps, she
whines, she barks, she runs in circles, she tries to jump in her dog purse so I’ll
carry her, she charges at the backs of my legs if I take to long to get going, and then – when she finally gets in the car,
forget about it! Her head is out the
window and she’s in her own world where little dogs can fly and sample the
smells of a new mile every minute!
And, since G for Jesus is meeting with the rest of the church this weekend, I get to reccomend that you read something just because it makes me excited!!! So – that’s the reading schedule this week... here you go!
Reading:
Memory Verse:
Psalm 139: 2-4
You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O Lord.

"I'm so mad I could just kill him!!!" Ever said it? Ever heard it said? Ever heard it said about you?!
I don't have any kids, so I can't say it with absolute certainty, but I'm pretty sure that every parent has felt like killing their kid at one point in time. From my experience as a kid, I KNOW that my Mom has felt like killing me... "No, mom, I don't know how hard the car would have had to hit the ground to destroy a gallon bottle of water in the trunk on impact... but I really don't think the car was that far in the air..." I think hearing that gave my Mom her "I'm going to kill the girl..." moment.
What's my point? We give our parents a hard time when we're kids. Not just with our occasional bad behavior, but with our expectations for them. Parents aren't perfect... they're still trying to figure stuff out too - and we need to cut them some slack!
Matt Vaughn IS a parent, and he's going to be teaching this Sunday on parents and why it's bad to kill people.
Read:
Monday: Ephesians 6:1-4 | Tuesday: Ephesians 6:5-9 | Wednesday: Ephesians 6:10-18 | Thursday: Matthew 7:2-6 | Friday: Matthew 7:7-11 | Saturday: Matthew 7:12-14
Memorize:
Ephesians 6:7
Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.

Be

So - can I get some opinions on this? The All Night After Party is coming up on June 22nd and I was just told by the rental company that they aren't allowed to let us flip upside down on it anymore... so - we can throw ourselves into the wall, we just can't run, flip, and then throw ourselves into the wall...
Would giant inflatable sumo wrestling be better?

Why do some people seem to be magnets for horrible experiences? Why doesn’t God prevent children from being hurt or abused? Why does God allow pain and suffering at all? The Bible teaches a lot of things about pain and suffering – and our interactions with God when we are in pain teach us a lot about his purpose for suffering as well.
This Sunday, Derrick is going to be teaching about having
courage even when you’re in pain. I
believe the title of the lesson might be, “It sucks to be Job.” In case you don’t know who Job is, he’s kind
of like a baby buffalo that get’s attacked by lions, and then drug into a river
by crocodiles, and then attacked by lions, and then lives to tell about it… (reading schedule and memory verse below.)
Reading This Week:
Monday – James 1:2-4 | Tuesday – Revelation 21:1-8 |
Wednesday – 1 Peter 5:6-11 | Thursday – Acts 14:1-22 | Friday - Job 1:1-12 |
Saturday – Job 1:13-22
1 Peter 5:7
Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.

Camps and retreats are not only a lot of fun but are probably one the most impacting and life-changing things we do all year. There is something about getting away for a few days from the hustle and bustle of life that really makes a difference in students’ lives. It’s a great opportunity to build friendships and memories that will last. As you can probably tell by now I am super excited about retreats and camps and believe they are often turning points in student’s lives. I have many fond memories of summer and winter camps from my youth days. It was at a winter camp when I was 14 that my eyes were opened to what this whole “God thing” about. It’s not just about rules, regulations, church, or even the afterlife. I thought being a Christian was trying to be good enough person to qualify for heaven and God was waiting to strike me down if I messed up. What I found radically changed my view of God and what this life is all about. I gave me hope, purpose, and reason to get out of bed in the morning. It was pretty simple really…it’s about relationships. God wants to know me and I can know him. It’s not just some kind of fire insurance its about having meaningful relationships with God and people. That winter camp and other retreats like it kindled in me a passion that if I could help even one student really realize that eternal “LIFE” can start now then I could make an eternal difference.
We wanted to let you know about our upcoming summer retreat July 11th – 15th for all 6-12 graders from the current 2006-2007 school year. The cost is $225 dollars if you register with a $50 deposit by Sunday June 17th. Make checks payable to The Rock Church and give deposit payment as well as the camp registration form (linked below) to one of the youth staff by June 17th. The full amount is due Sunday July 8th. We do not want any student to not go just because of finances so talk to us if that’s an issue and we will work with you on a plan. We would love for as many students as possible to attend as it will be one of our biggest events of the year and be another opportunity to continue to build positive relationships with God and each other. Included with this letter is more detailed information and you can contact matt@therockchurch.net or any of the youth staff if you have further questions.
You should be getting more information in the mail by the end of this week. If you don't it probably means we do not have your mailing information. Send Laura or I a quick note with your student's name, address, phone, and email address and we will get that taken care of.
